More than 50 Litchfield children showed up early Saturday morning to participate in the 34th Annual Conservation Commission Fishing Derby.
“We’re happy with the turnout,” explained Joan McKibbon. “After such a low number of kids last year, we were afraid if we didn’t get the turnout this year, it would be our last.”
But that was not the case for the 2 to 14 year olds who gathered at Marc Lane for a little fun in the early morning sun.
The commission bought 250 fish to stock the pond for the day, and the State of NH Fish and Game matched that number, and some of the kids were hitting their limit of five fish just as the derby wound down.
Plans are already in the works for the 35th derby next year. “We’re thinking fireworks,” joked McKibbon. “But don’t they scare fish?”
