Over the weekend, Alvirne Class Act dazzled the town of Hudson with their production of “Seussical the Musical.” Town residents, students, and family members flooded through the doors of the Alvirne gymnasium during the course of four performances. As the weekend progressed, there were some who even returned to view the spectacle for a second time.

“Seussical the Musical” pays homage to a multitude of Dr. Seuss tales ranging from “The Cat in the Hat” to “Horton Hears A Who.” The story is narrated by The Cat in the Hat (Liam Soto) as he transports JoJo (Rachel Hickey) to the miniscule town of Who-ville. Once there, she meets Horton (Jake Apitz), an elephant determined to keep the citizens of Who safe from non-believers like the Sour Kangaroo (Samantha Ducharme). The delightfully weird storyline travels through jungles, circuses, and courtrooms as the journey of Horton and his clover progresses. Other characters include Gertrude McFuzz (Kristina McCarthy), an avid admirer of Horton, and Mayzie LaBird (Isabel Breakey), a troublesome bird who leaves Horton with an egg.

The Alvirne gymnasium was decked out; colorful set pieces brought the audience to the Jungle of Nool and the small town of Who-ville. Fun music, wacky dance moves, and phenomenal performances brought the extravagant world of Seuss to life. The Alvirne theater kids weren’t the only ones who performed that night; members of the baseball team, JROTC, teachers, and young ones from the elementary and middle schools participated in the fun. As the curtain closed and the kids took their bows, the abundance of bodies on stage put into perspective the great deal of love and dedication put into the production.

At the end of the day, Alvirne thespians continue to display their many talents as they, once again, add another great spring musical to the books.
