Tuesday, Governor Chris Sununu joined firefighters, legislators, and representatives from the New Hampshire Security Retirement Coalition to announce his support for HB 616, relative to a cost of living adjustment for retirees in the state retirement system.

“For nearly 10 years, our state’s retirees have been without an actual cost-of-living adjustment that directly goes towards the base payment of their benefits,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “The time to do something is now, and I am ready to work with the legislature to get this done.”

“Time and again, recent legislatures have used the rising employer costs of the pension system as the boogeyman against cost of living adjustments,” said Bill McQuillen, chairman of the New Hampshire Retirement Security Coalition. “New Hampshire’s retired public employees are thrilled to see bipartisan support for a much-needed, modest COLA.”

“I thank Governor Sununu for joining us at the Hudson Fire Department today in support of HB 616 — a critical piece of legislation that endorses cost of living adjustments for retirees,” said Bob Buxton, chief, Hudson Fire Department. “Retired firefighters have been counting on the state to provide this cost of living adjustment, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have Governor Sununu in our corner delivering real results.”
