Alvirne High School students stun in “Shrek the Musical.”  The props, costumes, makeup and set design all looked professionally done.  Clearly a lot of hard work went into making this play a success and all the hard work paid off.  The most impressive prop was the giant dragon that they rented.  Several students held it up and navigated it to and from the stage.

Freshmen Jake Apitz played Shrek.  He did an impressive job for his first high school play debut.  He studied the movie carefully so he could perfect the accent.  He said the most difficult thing about being Shrek was wearing the very tall platform shoes.

Junior Casey Williamson was very excited to play Donkey in the play and it showed.  Both he and Donkey’s eccentric personality shined through on stage.  Williamson sounded just like Eddie Murphy.  Williamson said every time he fell he did it for his fans.

Lord Farquaad, played by Bradley Garcia, was also a crowd favorite.  His singing and dancing was superb especially because he had to spend the majority of time on his knees.

Brianna Thompson who was the voice of the dragon gave a breathtaking performance and showed the audience what a powerful and beautiful voice she had.

Overall, the cast and crew did a brilliant job and it was a great end of the school year.  With a lot of their cast so young, the plays to come in the next few years should be very successful.
