An increasing list of late Salem Police employees is a reminder of the dangers of the job and dedication many have had to the community.

“It seems like every year we come here we always have more names,” said Police Chief Paul Donovan at the annual Salem Police Memorial.

Just days after Brentwood Police Officer Stephen Arkell was killed in the line of duty, Donovan said the job hasn’t gotten any easier.

“It’s really picking up,” he said adding there were still line-of-duty deaths both in large and small towns.

But the department is working to combat the statistic by providing state-of-the-art equipment and training to officers.

Sergeants Michael Wagner and Shane Smith read the roll of late police employees.

Town Manager Keith Hickey read a proclamation from the Board of Selectmen.

Officer Sean Wilson placed a commemorative wreath in front of the memorial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
