Illuminating Words from a Founding Father

June 30, 2017

While commemorating the birth of the greatest nation on earth, remember that Independence Day should be much more than watching fireworks.  The United States of America has had 241 strong years.  Celebrate safely with family and friends.  Consider the telling words from one of our nation’s founding fathers in a letter penned to his wife, Abigail.

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha (epoch) in the history of America. I am apt to believe it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.”  ~John Adams
