The Hudson Senior Center held its annual summer cookout on Aug. 25 at the Community Center. The theme this year was a Hawaiian Luau. The Community Center underwent a temporary makeover to look like a tropical paradise, complete with Tiki huts and an island stage with palm trees. Lots of friends dressed up with grass skirts and coconuts, flower leis and Hawaiian shirts.
St. Joseph’s Meals on Wheels community dining program was the caterer for the day, serving barbeque ribs and chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, zucchini bread and ice tea. Lunch was served by guest volunteers at two stations set up on the dance floor.
After lunch was over, the entertainment for the afternoon affair was also a special treat as there was hula dancing from Andrea Star who grew up in Hawaii. After performing the hula she taught the group how to dance it. Gail Eaton, the fabulous line dancing teacher, led everyone in dancing for the rest of the afternoon.
This third annual cookout brought out 254 seniors this year, including volunteers. Already looking forward to next year’s cookout!
