Hudson Honors Memorial DayMay 31, 2013
Hundreds gathered at the Hudson Commons last Monday for the annual Memorial day Parade. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in site as the marching bands were heard off in the distance, long before they were seen. The children were laughing and playing as the excitement drove/marched down Derry Road throwing candy at spectators making their way towards their final destination at the VFW off of Lowell Road. Before completing their march, parade goers gathered around the gazebo in the commons to give thanks through partaking in a few ceremonial traditions such as the “return of the boots” which gave respect to all of the fallen soldiers who didn’t make it back from the battlefield, a poem read by post 48 Commander Valerie Harnadek, and of course the 21 gun salute to name a few. Although celebratory, the day was also emotional as hundreds bowed their heads in prayer, remembering all those who gave their life’s to preserve this country’s freedom.
