Last Wednesday Thursday and Friday, the Early Learning Center at Dr. H. O. Smith School welcomed some very special people to “Celebrate America,” to be entertained, meet the students’ teachers, and see the classrooms.  And the children had a special surprise in the classroom; the chicks that they had been watching grow were very cute and ready to leave the classroom.

The “Celebrate America” program started with several songs by the first grade, complete with syncopated moves and even flag waving.  The first graders, under the direction of Cynthia Velez, were amazing.

Following the children singing, they came off the stage and sat with their special guest for a concert by Steve Blunt, a professional children’s storyteller and musician.  Refreshments and a slideshow of the first graders’ year so far was shown as everyone had brunch and then went to their classrooms.
