Benson Park held its third annual Cool Runnings Cardboard Sled Race this past Sunday, February 23. The race is a benefit to raise funds to build a new amphitheater at Benson Park, in memory of former Hudson student Mallory Gray who passed away in October 2009 from rheumatoid arthritis and leukemia. The organization of fundraising volunteers has successfully gathered over $26,000 in the past four years. The amphitheater project is scheduled to break ground this spring at Benson Park.
Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day for cardboard sled racing as families from all over Hudson gathered to show off their handmade cardboard racing masterpieces. The family event, which included 35 registered sleds, was judged on various categories such a most creative, best theme and fastest sleds.
This event was not only a fun way for the family to enjoy their Sunday in the sun but it also raised over $600 towards the amphitheater.
